One of our GPI community members recently shared a powerful and profoundly moving message encapsulating the essence of investing, connecting, and belonging. Their words illuminate the complex emotions and unwavering bonds that tie us to the places and people we hold dear.
In times of crisis, our connection to our roots often intensifies. This community member's raw, honest account of their feelings towards Israel during these challenging times is a testament to that phenomenon. They write:
I feel immense fear for Israel, my country of heart, my refuge. Every day, I live in anguish for my brothers and sisters there, who are caught up in the horror of war. Uncertainty consumes me, the idea that at any moment, everything could change for them, haunts me. I constantly fear for their lives, for their safety, and it's eating away at me.
Despite the fear and anguish, there's an undeniable pull towards the very place that causes such worry:
The more the war rages, the more I want to be there. It's as if the suffering that's befalling them is calling me to join them, to share their fate. It's strange, I know. The danger should make me run away, but it pushes me to want to be there, with them.
This paradoxical feeling of being drawn closer in times of adversity reflects a profound sense of belonging and connection:
Maybe it's because in these moments of terror, I feel even more connected to this land. This fear, this pain... everything draws me closer to it, as if my place should be by their side, enduring this ordeal together.
These words remind us that investing in a community, to connect and belong truly, sometimes means sharing not just in times of joy but also in moments of hardship. It's about standing together, supporting, and finding strength in our shared experiences and emotions.
